The Americus-Sumter Arts Council is committed to enriching the culture of our community by promoting the visual, literary, and performing arts. Summer Arts Program! The Americus and Sumter County Arts Council is offering summer classes for all ages. The following three courses will be held at Rees Park Economic Development Ctr., 409 Elm Ave., Americus,GA DRAWING CATS AND DOGS: all ages welcome. Children under Six may be accompanied by guardian. We will explore the form of the cat and the dog in charcoal, pastel, and collage. Students will create original artwork, some of which will be exhibited at the Sumter Humane Society’s new facility. Class dates: July6-July 24 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, 9:30-11:30 am. Cost: $10 per class or $70.00 for all nine classes. Includes materials. Teachers: Anne Thomas and Sissy Ledbetter Creating Miniature Historic Buildings: age 12 to adult. We will study the design of some historic Sumter County structures, or other buildings of your choice, through photographs and drawings .The structure will be broken down into simple geometric forms. We will create clay models, which will then be cast to create multiple pieces. Class dates : Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 14-July 30 . 4:00-6:00 pm. Cost: $85.00 for 6 classes. Includes materials. Taught by Anne Thomas Figure Drawing- age 15 and over. For self-directed students and artists. We will draw from a live model in dancewear, using charcoal or medium of your choice. Course fee: $10.00 for two hour class. Materials not included. Class dates : Mondays and Wednesdays, July 13-29, 4:00-6:00 pm. Exploring Women’s Issues With Art – This course will explore difficult aspects of women’s lives, such as dealing with cancer, using mixed media and Collage. 229-924-3235 This class will be held at The Calvary Episcopal Church, Lee St., Americus. Creating Original Prints- age 12 to adult. In this 4 day workshop students will learn history and techniques of printmaking, and will use a printing press to make calligraphic relief prints.
